Goku and Chichi first met in the Dragonball series when chibi-Goku went to Fire Mountain. Chichi was a great warrior back then, but since she stopped fighting, she's become very calm. So calm that she is very reluctant to let her own child, Gohan, fight just like his father. The only time (that I've seen, at least) that she even tries to fight in DragonballZ is when she tries to defend Gohan in the movie "Dead Zone", my personal favorite out of the three movies that have been dubbed so far.
Back to their relationship... If anything remotely bad happens to Goku, she goes ballistic! Upon hearing about his first death after fighting Radditz, she faints out of anger, fear, and stress. When she hears that Goku has gone to Namek, her first move is to go right to the spot where the fighting is.
Goku, on the other hand, well... He does anything to make Gohan happy, even if it means going against his own wife. Which can mean hearing loss at a much earlier age... :)
There is one good thing that I can say about this couple that really hits your heart and soul... When they made their vows for "until death do us part", even death didn't separate these two.
